What are MicroFit’s Origins?

“Innovation is the brainchild of necessity.” Paul Vodak, MicroFit’s President and Chief Technology Officer established the company in 1986. While working as an exercise physiologist and research assistant at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Mr. Vodak performed hundreds of health and fitness assessments by hand. He envisioned an easy to use, computer controlled device that would enable medical professionals to perform fast, accurate and comprehensive assessments and track outcomes over time. He pulled together a team of talented experts from the fields of medicine, exercise physiology, health education, software and hardware engineering, design, and manufacturing, and the result was the first product in the market to offer a complete collection of fitness assessment devices with on-line, interactive technology. Though others have tried to imitate the MicroFit FAS-2 Interactive System, it has never been equaled. MicroFit remains the highest quality health assessment system on the market today.

Why is it so important to offer fitness assessment?

All accredited certification programs for fitness instructors, exercise leaders, personal trainers, and exercise physiologists recommend a basic fitness and wellness assessment for all individuals starting an exercise program. Fitness professionals need to get baseline measurements of blood pressure, body fat, aerobic capacity, back flexibility and strength to properly prescribe an exercise program and track their progress. A fitness assessment will identify important health risk factors and in so doing can help people avoid chronic disease.

What is HealthWizard?

HealthWizard is a seamlessly integrated suite of programs that includes Fitness Profile, Wellness Profile, Health History and MicroFit Manager. HealthWizard can be used as standalone software, with the MicroFit FitKit or with the FAS-2 Interactive System for standardized, computer-controlled assessment.

Can I generate group reports?

Advanced reporting capabilities lets you assess and manage group health status of any captive population. MicroFit makes it easy to create comprehensive group comparison, summary, trend and student score reports.

Can I use my own computer, or do I have to buy one from you?

You can use your own PC–based laptop or desktop computer as long as it meets the minimum requirements.

What are the minimum system requirements for HealthWizard?

PC running Windows 98/NT-sp5/2000/XP, 64 MB RAM, 100MB hard disk space, available serial COM port (if using FAS-2), CD ROM, 16- or 24-bit color video adapter.

Can I use my MAC Computer?

Sorry, the MicroFit HealthWizard program only operates on a PC computer.

Does your software work on a network?

Yes, the HealthWizard program works on a local area network. The program application files must be installed on each computer but the database files can be installed on a network server computer that is shared by all computers.

How many students does your database hold?

The database will hold over 20,000 students. Need more? Just let us know.

Can I purchase the HealthWizard software without the testing devices?

You bet! Each of the HealthWizard programs can be used as standalone software without testing hardware. Data for the Fitness Profile program can be entered manually (i.e. after using your own measuring devices).

You can purchase just the modules you need. HealthWizard was designed with flexibility in mind. Its modular design allows you to buy one program now and add others at a later date. Likewise, standalone software users can upgrade to the FAS-2 Interactive System at any time.

Can I change the report text in the Fitness Profile program?

Yes, you can customize the report text to reflect your approach to health and wellness and to promote “other” products and services that your facility offers (i.e. personal training, yoga classes, nutritional counseling etc….)

Can I add my own tests to the Fitness Profile program?

Yes, Fitness Profile’s user-friendly design and flexibility lets you create and track an unlimited number of user-defined tests (for example: bench press, range of motion, blood glucose levels etc…) Additional tests will then appear as part of a single consolidated Fitness Profile report for each student.

Your FAS-2 Interactive System comes with skinfold calipers for measuring body fat. Can I use another method such as bioelectrical impedance or circumference instead?

Absolutely. The body fat protocol can be changed at any time. Go to the protocol box on your body fat screen and select an alternative method such as circumference or other. If you are using a bioelectrical impedance device, simply change the protocol to “other”, then type in your score.

Can I use a treadmill or a step test instead of a bicycle ergometer to measure cardiovascular fitness?

The Fitness Profile program offers over 10 different submaximal protocols to measure cardiovascular fitness. These protocols utilize either a bicycle ergometer, treadmill or step. An ‘Other’ protocol is included so you can enter a cardiovascular fitness score measured from a protocol not available in the Fitness Profile program.

I have an older MicroFit system in my facility. Do you have an upgrade program?

Yes, MicroFit offers its CTI-7 or earlier users a very special program designed to upgrade their existing testing hardware to the latest FAS-2 hardware and HealthWizard software. Please contact MicroFit Sales or call
